Week 1 workout after baby!

Its been 1 week! and let me just answer the question everyone wants to know right away, how much weight did I lose. The answer is 3lbs!  Heres how:

so first of all, I felt TERRIBLE Sunday night. My husband told me to go to the after hours clinic, but being the true (ex)nurse that I am i refused. Until about midnight when I couldn’t break my own fever and started to get really worried about nursing my 6 week old baby girl. :( Late that night I asked if he could skip work so I could go to the clinic, and sure enough, STREP THROAT! The NP said that the flu test came back very faint but she was going to put me on antibiotics for the strep and a nose spray for my double ear infection (did I forget to mention that fun fact? yeh, ear infections too) My husband couldn’t miss anymore work and neither could I so I just drug my snotty ass around and continued on with life, including a Christmas party for my daughter at school on Friday and a sleep over at my house that night. super fun guys, super fun.

Because I knew everyone would want to know my weight, I had the big guy pick up batteries at the drug store to put in my scale to weigh myself, and after throwing it against the wall during my second trimester…… it worked! (cue angels singing) The number wasn’t pretty but I’m not so much worried about that, more that I want to fit into regular jeans and not look like a busted biscuit tin. I lost more than 65 pounds before and I’ll do it again, no worries, just this time I’m going to document it so you girls who may be struggling with the task at hand can join in the fun. This  morning -3 pounds I realized that I know how to do this, I just have to trust the process and not rush it.

this weeks game changer:

firstly let me say I can NOT be at a caloric deficit because I am currently breastfeeding. So if a normal woman consumes the daily recommended 2,000 calories, I should, according to breastfeeding advocates tack on an extra 500 and be at 2,500. I am currently staying between 2, and 2,500 cals, while burning around 500 a workout. but the real game changer is WHAT I am eating. I’m trying to eat my weight in protein……. ex: if you weigh 150lbs you would consume 150 grams of protein a day. The rest of my calories I’m trying to get in a small amount of carbs and a huge amount of fruits and veggies, especially green veggies. Sounds easy, but it’s actually loads of food. here are some not pinterest worthy real life pics for your eyeballs enjoyment.

prepping definitely helps me stay on track. That’s turkey bacon to the far right and if you cook it ahead of time and keep it in the fridge you can pull out a couple of pieces to add to any meal. If i don’t prep you’ll find me frantically filling my face with a sleeve of oreos….. because…… well….life.

this recipe is from my vegetarian days. Its super easy, chopped onion, mushrooms, zucchini and squash cook on medium heat with out a top until the onions sweat, cover it and let it cook for about 5 minutes. Timing depends on how soft you like your veggies. The longer you cook, the softer they will be. I worked in nursing home for long enough that I prefer my veggies crunchy, I know I’ll be arguing about this one day with a poor nurse one who regrets her/his career choice every time she/he sees me.

also for a snack I had chopped green bell pepper and I really loved it as a snack! grapefruit for breakfast has helped and oatmeal… I love oatmeal.

I made a video of me explaining this all, and realized that I am so annoying that I couldn’t possibly upload it… but I will keep you all up to date here. If I cook anything else that my 4 yr old approves of I will definitely post. here. on my little blog that 13 people read.

later lovers. p.s. i really love you. and i hope you are taking it easy on yourself and loving on family and friends this holiday season.

Home Improvement!

So the big guy and I decided to skip vacation, and instead spend a few dollars around our home. We don’t have a lot to spend so one of the things we were thinking of was painting all interior doors black. like this…..

In addition to that we are going to have our flowerbeds re-mulched

(lame I know)

I’ve been really excited to re-do Squeakers’ room for her 2nd birthday too. It’s all purple gray and yellow from her nursery, but I’m using these pictures as inspiration….

I want to do a canopy around her bed. Her bed and dresser are both from Restoration Hardware baby and they are gray, sorta like this

These are blackout curtains and they are on sale! Woo hop Pottery Barn. She has dark wood blinds in there now but, I’m over them and curtains would really lighten the room up. I’m really not going for a theme, I’d just like to add more color and have the room look “rich” with lots of patterns and fun spots for her to hang. She LOVES books so I’m really looking forward to making her a little reading nook later on , but for now she still really likes sitting with us in her glider and having us read to her.

I can’t wait to change her crib to a toddler bed. I’m still on the hunt for a perfect light gray color for her walls and bedding that isn’t pink! I really want the bedding to be super cozy and fluffy :)

I love these colors! It’s colorful but the colors are muted! My fave! I would like to use all of these colors in her “big girl room” and I am so excited to order this growth chart from Land of Nod because SQUEAKER IS WALKING! yah! I can’t wait to start measuring my little nugget on this! And… I love birds…..

Also I’d like to re-carpet her room but… we will see…

We also want a really nice outdoor table set for 6-8 people. They are on sale all over now because it’s end of season and we spend a good deal of time in our backyard which is slowly becoming my favorite part of our house. Our office is a nightmare! we can never, and I mean never agree on office furniture and they color now is turquoise. It’s dimly lit and every piece of furniture needs to be replaced.  COMPLETE overhaul. Not sure where to even begin there but I’m sure that’s where a lot of our budget will go.  I have not found a single picture of a home office that I like…. maybe I’m picky? nooooo ;)

If you find any cool office pictures send them to me on pinterest! Follow me above! oh and follow me on here too !

Loving lately….

It’s been quite some time since I listed a few of the things that I’ve been loving so this might be a little all over the place. Forgive me, or better still, just don’t read.

I’m a huge fan of Aveeno products. No surprise their body wash is amazing. The price is high. Really high when you are looking at the Dial soap and saying to yourself  “unless this Dial has the tears of children in it, It might be a better idea”  But, I can assure you friends, Aveeno has done it again, creating a soap that hydrates and smells nice. None of those ridiculous scents like “Summer rain”….. Have you ever smelled anyone who just walked in from a summer rain? It’s terrible. Heres a delicious scent called “wet dog”……ummm no thanks.

Speaking of scents, bergamot. I’ve always loved it and just remembered how happy the scent makes me every time I pass it. Mostly in candles, I wouldn’t spray the scent on me or anything, but it smells…. cozy. Makes me want to cuddle up and enjoy some hot tea and read my next new fave…..

The Power of Habit

By Charles Duhigg

Great so far. I’ll do a full review when I am done. Also remember when I read Gone Girl? I told you all it was “over rated”? Movie coming out! Like all the other great books, Twilight anyone? The Fault in our Stars? I kid, I kid. But seriously it stars…., wait for it….., Ben Affleck. siiiigh

These shoes.

Jessica Simpson shoes are the truth! None of the mercury in all of that tuna has affected the fact that this lady can design a sturdy, vestal, comfortable and good-looking pump. I wear these EVERYDAY, and I love them. If you follow me on Instagram you probably see them all the time which is why I am ordering another pair and getting them in black as well. Go Jessica! And congrats on the wedding and super cute kids too!

Squeaker would like to share a few things as well. First up,

All natural, Gluten free, baked, blah blah blah. decently healthy treat that she loves. Notice I said “treat” and not snack. Snacks around here are in fact whole, clean foods, but, if she wants a hand full of these so I can concentrate in the wine isle, so be it.

Also, Monsters Inc. I’m not sure why she has such a fascination with this movie. She’s more like me in that, she can watch a 30 minute show but a movie is pushing it. This movie however has her full attention the entire time it’s on. She liked the Croods for a while too…

Oh, and remember that water play table the Easter Bunny brought her? CLUTCH! That thing is a game changer. From now on everyones kid is getting a water play table from me, safer than a pool, just as easy to put away, fills faster and the kid can play for a solid 2 hours at that thing. So, if you invite me to your kids birthday…. go ahead and expect that. You can thank me later. I’m like Oprah with those things now… “you get a water play table, and you get a water play table..”

Thank you for reading. I will be writing more frequently. Something you want to see leave it for me in comments. They don’t all get approved so you can save your rude comments for someone else :)

I’m back!

I know, I know, it’s about time. BUT…… We finally opened our doors to brush&blush and I can not wait to give you guys the tour and tell you what’s been going on. First of all this,

My beautiful family the night of our grand opening! We were all squinting a little because of the sun, but, you get it!

here are a couple more of my favs!

Women supporting women, nothing better! Aren’t my friends gorgeous?

One of the most hilarious people I know, our manager, Shoshuna.

So now that we are open I’ve been overwhelmed with work. I’m not complaining, I feel incredibly blessed and I’m looking forward to building an empire for my little family. Being a business owner has always been a dream of mine and we are making it happen!

On another note Squeaker is now 20 months old and still not walking. It’s been very tough trying to make a proper plan of action for my little love. Advice comes from every corner, and trying to filter it all and choose the best option for my family is tough. Therapy, no therapy. If she gets therapy, should we do it at school or at home? Should I put her in school full-time to be around other “walking” children more? Is it completely normal? How many specialist can one baby see?  I’m grateful that it seems that it is not neurological and the other day she actually held my hand and walked about 20′. I cried like an absolute baby. Nothing feels better than seeing your child reach a milestone. I’ve always watched these movies in the grocery store walking hand-in-hand with their toddlers and thought ‘one day that’ll be us’. Hopefully that day is sooner than later, but for now I am hopeful. All in Gods time I suppose.

Speaking of Squeaker I am trying to plan her 2nd birthday! I know it’s not until November but, I like to find little things on sale early instead of trying to throw it all together last-minute. I think our gift to her will be a “bug girl” room. Not, totally big girl but, ya know, rearrange some thing, make her crib into a toddler bed, pack up baby toys, etc. How long did you mommies wait? Right at 2, or later? I know some people wait until their child is like 5….. and I’m not into that. I’d be willing to wait a bit longer though if 2 is too early.

Oh! I almost forgot! they did a feature on me in Houston Brides magazine! lil ol’ me! Can you believe it? I’ll post a link soon!

Make up Nerd for life!

With the opening of my baby, Brush and Blush, opening soon, I’ve left you guys high and dry! I am so so sorry and to make it up to you I’m going to very shortly (in less than a week) post my most embarrassing story. Believe me, It’s terrible. Anyway in the meantime I thought I’d announce the make up line we are carrying….. wait for it…. Kevyn Aucoin!

I could not be more excited, you can buy any of the products here…. of course go to shop at the top

But for you lovers, I have listed my favorites.

The Celestial Bronzing veil in Tropical Nights

Not only is the packaging gorgeous, but it is sooooo easy to blend out. Tropical days is a little light for me which is why I wear Tropical Nights. Now you know how I fake this tan.

Also The Pure Powder Glow.

Shadore, Dolline and Natura are my personal favorites. Shadore is pink,  Dolline is a little more peach-y and Natura is perfect for a natural glow if you already have major lips going on. (I asked for it for Mother’s Day)

The Expert Lip Color!

I’m wearing Carliana on my latest Instagram post! Thelmadora is the perfect nude, moisturizing enough that you don’t need a gloss! But of course the glosses are also amazing. If you see anything on the site you want more information about just ask me here! Other than that I hope you have all had a fantastic day and week so far! Be sure to Subscribe!! I love you so much! so so so much!

My birthday! shenanigans and such…

My birthday was amazing! Thanks to my gorgeous sister-in-law who arranged for a girls night out. First we went to Benjy’s for dinner here in Houston and then… well… out here are a few photos….

photo-3 Celina, me, Olivia

photo-4 me and Danielle (my sister)

Sunday I recovered and swore to never drink again. Monday we went to a St. Patrick’s day block party at my Father-in-laws restaurant,  The Rouxpour in Sugar Land Texas. (and that’s exactly why I don’t swear) ;) Today the big guy and I took Squeaker to play at La Centerra here in Katy because she was (and isn’t) feeling well and we wanted her to just have a mommy, daddy and Squeaks day. Gonna try Zarbee’s tonight. Have any of you mommies tried it? Does it work? I’ll be sure to let you guys know what I think of it after I’ve tried it a couple of times. *crossing fingers*

I’m sure this post was pretty boring. Tomorrows will be better I promise.

Happy Valentine’s Day Y’all!

I consider Valentine’s Day to be our anniversary. 6 years ago on this day the big guy took me on our first date. How we got to that point was a little more complicated than it sounds. I was born in Baton Rouge Louisiana, on March 12th 1983. The day Jesus really said “Let there be light” I kid. I kid.

My husband was also born in Baton Rouge and we went to the same High School for 2 years before I switched schools. Anyway I met him in Spanish class, (yo hablo NO Espanol) at the ripe age of 14. He was a grade above me and had a car so we drove around talking for a year just as friends. Never dated, never kissed. Fast forward like 11 years and we both randomly lived in Houston……

I said something on MySpace like “What’s going on in Houston tonight” and we realized we lived about 45 minutes apart. This was right before Valentines day. Valentine’s day fell on a Wednesday that year and he asked me on a date for that Friday. Sure, why not, we were friends right? So after he asked me on that date I posted something like “Wednesday night is Valentine’s, who’s taking me out?” As you can imagine my comment box exploded…. :) and the big guy sent me an immediate text saying, and I quote “that’s messed up, I’m taking you out Friday and you’re having others guys ask you out for Wednesday?” I meeeeeeean…. we weren’t dating, I hadn’t even seen him in years…… basically I was a jerk. Luckily he knows what he wants and said “Cancel your date with whoever and I’m taking you out BOTH nights”

I fell in love right then, at that moment, without knowing it… I had found my soul mate.

After our second date, that Friday, we were almost never apart again. I threw caution to the wind and we were engaged 5 months later, we were married 5 months after that on Television. The Rachel Ray Show to be exact.

So today, more than my birthday, more than our wedding day or the day of my daughters birth, means more to me than any other day in the whole wide world. I took the first step into our future, the one that makes my birthday’s special, made my wedding happen and later created the most adorable girl in the world, our Squeaker. Today marks 6 years of kissing that big dude I met as a kid.

It’s love y’all. The real deal. The sometimes ugly but always there love. The kind worth living for. Cheers Lovers and have a very Happy Happy Happy Valentine’s Day!

November 2, 2008

and because I’m such a hopeless romantic I baked him this lovely cake…..

Relationships are like a bank…..

Relationships, in my opinion, are like a bank. I am the teller, the loan officer, the manager and the president of my bank. I mean by that, that I Greer, hold the keys and all of the codes to this well established, functioning bank. Let me explain…..

If you put in $100 into the bank, then at any reasonable hour, you can expect to pull that same $100 out. If you put into our relationship, you can expect a friend in return. This isn’t to say I don’t believe in the whole “do unto others” thing, because I do, I “turn the other cheek” but I’m not an ass  idiot. I won’t personally continue to invest my money  time into a person who only continues to call me for favors or when something is going on for me. This has been a very sad realization lately. It has been my New Years resolution to stop spending time on things and people that offer absolutely no “return” and only drain my accounts… I mean that both figuratively AND literally. A bank would never allow you to only make withdrawals. The bank would go broke.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. How last year I went broke. My husband lost his job, I was navigating my first year as a new mom, I had a huge health scare with an immediate family member and when I scrolled the 700+ people in my phone I had no one to really call. When I should have been happy about throwing my daughter her first birthday party, I felt defeated, all I wanted was someone to say “I’ll be there early to help set up.” My bank was bankrupt. I felt broken.

It also made me realize that I had people I needed to invest in. People I wished I had called more. I started (in my best attempt) to offer my banks services and realized that, though few, I had loyal friends.

So if you only call me to talk about allowing your friend/sister/aunt/cousin to model for my salon or if you have a girlfriend who does great hair; if you want to know where we are going on vacation, if your neighbor can carry her newly launched shampoo in Brush & Blush…… save it…… My bank is in recovery.

However, if you’d like to get our kids together for a play-date, if you wanna meet at the bookstore between us for a cup of coffee, wanna cook out at your house and have a glass of wine while we talk about our families and jobs…… I’ll try to be better about realizing you are trying to make a deposit, and I’ll make one in return…. promise.

Sesame Street Live!

We went. We saw. We fell backwards out of a chair and cried…. well, one of us, I’ll let you wonder which one.

My MIL, who we call Nanny, gifted us with Tickets to see Sesame Street Live, here in Houston! Floor seats at that! Immediately after taking this picture we went to go sit down in our folding chairs. Squeakers chair collapsed on her and she fell out of the back! A couple behind us told us it had JUST happened to their little girl. They were quick to help her up and thank goodness their baby bag was on the floor so Squeaks had a bit of padding, but I mean, Sesame Street…. c’mon! Wasn’t a huge deal though because Elmo came out minutes later and made things right the way only Elmo can. You see that Elmo Squeaker is holding? She calls that “Melmo” and she’s pretty serious about carrying it everywhere, kinda funny since she doesn’t really watch Sesame Street all that often. She’s had it since she was 2 months old and I dare you to try and pry that crusty thing from her hands! After Sesame Street we went to Nannys for dinner and, well, Squeaker fell asleep eating broccoli.

All in all I would say it’s a show totally worth seeing. Squeakers 2.5 yr old cousin COULD’T stop dancing and Squeaks  didn’t mind me stealing Melmo so she could clap. The characters walked up and down the isle so an isle seat is just as fun as sitting right in the middle. We were only 8 rows back and I’m happy because it was just enough room to see the back of the stage without straining. People were polite and helpful and dads hunched over so you could see over shoulders. It was awesome. Just ask the 5 year old girl behind us who was shedding tears and screaming “I loooove you Eeeeelmo!!!!” It was like being at a Michael Jackson concert…. you know….sorta like that…..
