Week 1 workout after baby!

Its been 1 week! and let me just answer the question everyone wants to know right away, how much weight did I lose. The answer is 3lbs!  Heres how:

so first of all, I felt TERRIBLE Sunday night. My husband told me to go to the after hours clinic, but being the true (ex)nurse that I am i refused. Until about midnight when I couldn’t break my own fever and started to get really worried about nursing my 6 week old baby girl. :( Late that night I asked if he could skip work so I could go to the clinic, and sure enough, STREP THROAT! The NP said that the flu test came back very faint but she was going to put me on antibiotics for the strep and a nose spray for my double ear infection (did I forget to mention that fun fact? yeh, ear infections too) My husband couldn’t miss anymore work and neither could I so I just drug my snotty ass around and continued on with life, including a Christmas party for my daughter at school on Friday and a sleep over at my house that night. super fun guys, super fun.

Because I knew everyone would want to know my weight, I had the big guy pick up batteries at the drug store to put in my scale to weigh myself, and after throwing it against the wall during my second trimester…… it worked! (cue angels singing) The number wasn’t pretty but I’m not so much worried about that, more that I want to fit into regular jeans and not look like a busted biscuit tin. I lost more than 65 pounds before and I’ll do it again, no worries, just this time I’m going to document it so you girls who may be struggling with the task at hand can join in the fun. This  morning -3 pounds I realized that I know how to do this, I just have to trust the process and not rush it.

this weeks game changer:

firstly let me say I can NOT be at a caloric deficit because I am currently breastfeeding. So if a normal woman consumes the daily recommended 2,000 calories, I should, according to breastfeeding advocates tack on an extra 500 and be at 2,500. I am currently staying between 2, and 2,500 cals, while burning around 500 a workout. but the real game changer is WHAT I am eating. I’m trying to eat my weight in protein……. ex: if you weigh 150lbs you would consume 150 grams of protein a day. The rest of my calories I’m trying to get in a small amount of carbs and a huge amount of fruits and veggies, especially green veggies. Sounds easy, but it’s actually loads of food. here are some not pinterest worthy real life pics for your eyeballs enjoyment.

prepping definitely helps me stay on track. That’s turkey bacon to the far right and if you cook it ahead of time and keep it in the fridge you can pull out a couple of pieces to add to any meal. If i don’t prep you’ll find me frantically filling my face with a sleeve of oreos….. because…… well….life.

IMG_2342

this recipe is from my vegetarian days. Its super easy, chopped onion, mushrooms, zucchini and squash cook on medium heat with out a top until the onions sweat, cover it and let it cook for about 5 minutes. Timing depends on how soft you like your veggies. The longer you cook, the softer they will be. I worked in nursing home for long enough that I prefer my veggies crunchy, I know I’ll be arguing about this one day with a poor nurse one who regrets her/his career choice every time she/he sees me.

also for a snack I had chopped green bell pepper and I really loved it as a snack! grapefruit for breakfast has helped and oatmeal… I love oatmeal.

I made a video of me explaining this all, and realized that I am so annoying that I couldn’t possibly upload it… but I will keep you all up to date here. If I cook anything else that my 4 yr old approves of I will definitely post. here. on my little blog that 13 people read.

later lovers. p.s. i really love you. and i hope you are taking it easy on yourself and loving on family and friends this holiday season.

VIB Rouge private party!

So last night, I was invited to the VIB Rouge party at Sephora. It was super fun and I thought I’d share a couple of things I grabbed while I had the discount!

  • vib party
  • vib party 1
  • vib party 2
  • vib party 3
  • vib party 4
  • vib party 5
  • vib party 6
  • vib 7

I also picked up a couple of gifts and some Kat Von D liner. When I opened my liner it was broken, so squeaker and I will be returning that today. booooo!!

Yesterday I cleaned out my closet, which was a hot ass mess! It had to be done though. I had a feeling that at any minute someone from TLC was going to call for me to be on an episode of hoarders. After a day of torture I celebrated my sweet friend Heathers birthday! I gave her a Bite Beauty lip care kit. I had the Agave mask and thought she’d like it as much as I did. The kit is a steal! You should really check it out. Here is the mask. The kit also comes with a lipstick as well as a scrub. Should maybe have gotten more….. hmmmmmm

Tonight I have another birthday to celebrate, the big guys step-mom. It’s a painting party and I’m pretty excited because I’ve never been to one, and last nights margaritas are making me pay today, so a nice girls night is all I could possibly handle!

Loving lately….

It’s been quite some time since I listed a few of the things that I’ve been loving so this might be a little all over the place. Forgive me, or better still, just don’t read.

I’m a huge fan of Aveeno products. No surprise their body wash is amazing. The price is high. Really high when you are looking at the Dial soap and saying to yourself  “unless this Dial has the tears of children in it, It might be a better idea”  But, I can assure you friends, Aveeno has done it again, creating a soap that hydrates and smells nice. None of those ridiculous scents like “Summer rain”….. Have you ever smelled anyone who just walked in from a summer rain? It’s terrible. Heres a delicious scent called “wet dog”……ummm no thanks.

Speaking of scents, bergamot. I’ve always loved it and just remembered how happy the scent makes me every time I pass it. Mostly in candles, I wouldn’t spray the scent on me or anything, but it smells…. cozy. Makes me want to cuddle up and enjoy some hot tea and read my next new fave…..

The Power of Habit

By Charles Duhigg

Great so far. I’ll do a full review when I am done. Also remember when I read Gone Girl? I told you all it was “over rated”? Movie coming out! Like all the other great books, Twilight anyone? The Fault in our Stars? I kid, I kid. But seriously it stars…., wait for it….., Ben Affleck. siiiigh

These shoes.

Jessica Simpson shoes are the truth! None of the mercury in all of that tuna has affected the fact that this lady can design a sturdy, vestal, comfortable and good-looking pump. I wear these EVERYDAY, and I love them. If you follow me on Instagram you probably see them all the time which is why I am ordering another pair and getting them in black as well. Go Jessica! And congrats on the wedding and super cute kids too!

Squeaker would like to share a few things as well. First up,

All natural, Gluten free, baked, blah blah blah. decently healthy treat that she loves. Notice I said “treat” and not snack. Snacks around here are in fact whole, clean foods, but, if she wants a hand full of these so I can concentrate in the wine isle, so be it.

Also, Monsters Inc. I’m not sure why she has such a fascination with this movie. She’s more like me in that, she can watch a 30 minute show but a movie is pushing it. This movie however has her full attention the entire time it’s on. She liked the Croods for a while too…

Oh, and remember that water play table the Easter Bunny brought her? CLUTCH! That thing is a game changer. From now on everyones kid is getting a water play table from me, safer than a pool, just as easy to put away, fills faster and the kid can play for a solid 2 hours at that thing. So, if you invite me to your kids birthday…. go ahead and expect that. You can thank me later. I’m like Oprah with those things now… “you get a water play table, and you get a water play table..”

Thank you for reading. I will be writing more frequently. Something you want to see leave it for me in comments. They don’t all get approved so you can save your rude comments for someone else :)

I’m back!

I know, I know, it’s about time. BUT…… We finally opened our doors to brush&blush and I can not wait to give you guys the tour and tell you what’s been going on. First of all this,

My beautiful family the night of our grand opening! We were all squinting a little because of the sun, but, you get it!

here are a couple more of my favs!

Women supporting women, nothing better! Aren’t my friends gorgeous?

One of the most hilarious people I know, our manager, Shoshuna.

So now that we are open I’ve been overwhelmed with work. I’m not complaining, I feel incredibly blessed and I’m looking forward to building an empire for my little family. Being a business owner has always been a dream of mine and we are making it happen!

On another note Squeaker is now 20 months old and still not walking. It’s been very tough trying to make a proper plan of action for my little love. Advice comes from every corner, and trying to filter it all and choose the best option for my family is tough. Therapy, no therapy. If she gets therapy, should we do it at school or at home? Should I put her in school full-time to be around other “walking” children more? Is it completely normal? How many specialist can one baby see?  I’m grateful that it seems that it is not neurological and the other day she actually held my hand and walked about 20′. I cried like an absolute baby. Nothing feels better than seeing your child reach a milestone. I’ve always watched these movies in the grocery store walking hand-in-hand with their toddlers and thought ‘one day that’ll be us’. Hopefully that day is sooner than later, but for now I am hopeful. All in Gods time I suppose.

Speaking of Squeaker I am trying to plan her 2nd birthday! I know it’s not until November but, I like to find little things on sale early instead of trying to throw it all together last-minute. I think our gift to her will be a “bug girl” room. Not, totally big girl but, ya know, rearrange some thing, make her crib into a toddler bed, pack up baby toys, etc. How long did you mommies wait? Right at 2, or later? I know some people wait until their child is like 5….. and I’m not into that. I’d be willing to wait a bit longer though if 2 is too early.

Oh! I almost forgot! they did a feature on me in Houston Brides magazine! lil ol’ me! Can you believe it? I’ll post a link soon!

Make up Nerd for life!

With the opening of my baby, Brush and Blush, opening soon, I’ve left you guys high and dry! I am so so sorry and to make it up to you I’m going to very shortly (in less than a week) post my most embarrassing story. Believe me, It’s terrible. Anyway in the meantime I thought I’d announce the make up line we are carrying….. wait for it…. Kevyn Aucoin!

I could not be more excited, you can buy any of the products here…. of course go to shop at the top

But for you lovers, I have listed my favorites.

The Celestial Bronzing veil in Tropical Nights

gorgeous!

Not only is the packaging gorgeous, but it is sooooo easy to blend out. Tropical days is a little light for me which is why I wear Tropical Nights. Now you know how I fake this tan.

Also The Pure Powder Glow.

Shadore, Dolline and Natura are my personal favorites. Shadore is pink,  Dolline is a little more peach-y and Natura is perfect for a natural glow if you already have major lips going on. (I asked for it for Mother’s Day)

The Expert Lip Color!

I’m wearing Carliana on my latest Instagram post! Thelmadora is the perfect nude, moisturizing enough that you don’t need a gloss! But of course the glosses are also amazing. If you see anything on the site you want more information about just ask me here! Other than that I hope you have all had a fantastic day and week so far! Be sure to Subscribe!! I love you so much! so so so much!

MUAH!

The best sunscreen. Seriously.

I have pretty dark skin so most people are convinced that I lay out in the sun all day. The truth is, my very close friend Amanda has had Melanoma removed twice, and she’s my age. That’s scary and because of that, I am serious about sunblock! My tan is partially from the fact that my father is from Honduras, and partially because I use these amazing products…

Clarins Radiance-Plus Golden Glow Booster

Just mix a couple of drops of this with your sunscreen and BOOM, golden face! ;) A couple of other things that I love are the St.  Tropez Tanning Essentials mousse and the Self Tan Luxe Dry Oil.

If you need any convincing besides the whole skin cancer scare let me also say that 90% of skin changes associated with aging are caused by exposure to UVA rays. So you know, if that means more than the threat of death… there’s that. Here’s what to look for in your sunscreen…

SPF only refers to the protection against UVB rays, which is why all of these new sunblocks say they are “broad spectrum”. Look for broad spectrum sunscreens to help protect against both UVA and UVB rays. If it’s truly going to protect against UVA it needs to contain one or more of these things, Ecamsule, avobenzone, oxybenzone, titanium dioxide or zinc oxide. BUT, being the amazing person I am I’ve already done the research to find one that is affordable…. you can thank me by following me… lol

Aveeno protect + hydrate

oxybenzone 5% and Avobenzone 3%

Normal clothing only has about 4% sun protection so put it under your shirt on your shoulders too! You need at least 15% protection but much more than that doesn’t make that much of a difference.

Hope that helps!

XOXO lovers! Greer

February Favorites

This past week and weekend was packed! I’ll share a couple of pictures and then jump into my February favorites.

photo-3

We went to the Houston rodeo cook off. Had a great time and then went and had dinner at Truluck’s. It was SOOOO good. If you live near one you should totally go.

Sunday was pretty chill we watched the Academy Awards. Ellen was awesome! Don’t you think! and Lupita!!! Ugh incredible speech. Such a lovely person!

photo-4 This is David, Goliath and Squeaker discussing life. She is so sweet I can’t even take it….

So here are a few things I was loving the month of February…

This GlamGlow Supermud mask. It’s intense! It pulls out EVERYTHING! worth every penny and it is pricey. It’s not a glamorous do at home mask, you won’t feel invigorated, or like you were at the spa, but it gets the job done. Trust me.

Josie Maran Argan Oil. Obviously I’m obsessed with this entire line but I’ve been using this on the ends of my hair to keep them from completely breaking off and my stylist told me she could see a difference. If you don’t know or can’t tell my ends are purple which means they had to be bleached first. They will need to be cut off pretty soon when I go back to regular old brown :(

You can just find this at your local grocery store. I keep trying different ones and this is just the best. It’s nothing fancy but I love it! I’m having it now actually.

Squeakers Minnetonka’s Trying to find something to fit her narrow, small foot is tough and these work great. Plan on buying another pair soon because she is growing out of these. I bought a TON of things from Baby Gap on sale for her 18 month stash. Should I do a baby Haul post? Comment yes if you wanna see one. I have these.

Let me know what you want to see more of! Thanks for reading and remember to subscribe! Thanks :)

Super anti aging foods for the skin

So if you’re reading any beauty magazines or visiting the dermatologist on a regular basis…. and you’re my age…. you’ve been moved from the “I have combination skin” cream, to the anti-aging section. I have always had troublesome oily skin that I’ve hated disliked since I can remember. Now that I’ve….. switched sections….in my skin care routine I really appreciate it. My doc says my skin actually looks much younger because I have very few wrinkles. He asked me what my skin care routine looked like and when I explained that it looked a lot like me not giving a….. well you know…. he started asking more questions and here’s what I learned.

I don’t smoke and I’m serious about sunblock. When I say serious I mean serious. I lather down if the big guy and I are having brunch outdoors anywhere. Though those things are huge he still asked more questions like “what do you eat?” When I told him he looked shocked. He said I ate a lot of “super foods.” I was curious what that really meant because I had heard the term thrown around a lot. I went and bought this book

Power Foods For The Brain by: Neal D. Barnard, MD

Now I know what you’re thinking “What does your brain have to do with skin care?”

Nothing.

BUT, in my fourth hour in Barnes and Nobles I decided to purchase this instead, my brain probably needs more work anyway.

In my own personal research I have found that several of the foods multitask, helping both. I have decided to write this particular post just about skin care though. More specifically, anti aging skin care. Foods that help maintain that youthful, dewy, plump skin.

Now of course their are several topical ideas to treat your skin concerns but this is all about what you eat. You have to eat anyway right? Might as well have it help you look like Beyonce’ girl!

Now listen, I am not a doctor. I’m not even that bright, this is just what I have gathered on my quest to healthy skin. You can over-do anything. That includes vitamins and minerals. So don’t act crazy and only eat Salmon and spinach for 3 months. Consult your own doctor. Got that? ok… let’s begin…

Zinc: you need it, foods got it. Zinc is a mineral that helps skin regenerate and heal. Young or old, acne and sores suck, and zinc helps heal that. It’s what is found in diaper rash creams and dandruff shampoo, even in your sunscreen. Don’t overdo it but here are the food I love loaded with Zinc. Spinach, pumpkin seeds, cashews, dark chocolate, white mushrooms and cooked oysters.

Vitamin A: or retinol, you’ve heard of retin-A right? yeh. It’s used everyday to fight aging skin. It’s also critical for a healthy scalp and gorgeous hair. it’s all about skin cell turnover and this beauty helps that happen much faster. To help absorbtion eat with fats. Here’s my list of yummy foods with Vitamin A. Sweet potato, carrots, kale, sweet red peppers and mangos.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids: a polyunsaturated fatty acid. Helps those tiny little cells hold on to water, you know, so you don’t look like a raisin. It does all this by helping your body in the production of inflammatory compounds. Here’s what I shove in my face. Salmon, edamame, walnuts, brussels sprouts and cauliflower.

Antioxidants: Nutrient. Yep, that’s all it is. Don’t you remember when people were all, “I only drink green tea” ? I do, while I was ordering a Coca-Cola, I don’t need your judgement. Green tea is loaded with antioxidants but it makes me sick. Coca-Cola however makes me feel like a rock-star. Back on topic…. anyway you need antioxidants to counteract the damaging, but normal, effects of oxidation in your skin tissue. These bad boys neutralize free-radicals. Free-radicals suck, they cause wrinkles. Basically it protects your skin. Try eating these, blueberries, blackberries, granny smith apples and black plums.

Vitamin C: or absorbic acid, depending on how close you guys are. This helps in the production of collagen. Let me say that again for you. Vitamin C helps in the production of collagen. Collagen, in case you live under a rock, is what babies have loads of that gives them that squishy, smooth cuteness. The body needs it to produce sebum, your bodies natural conditioner. So before you get injected try these foods, yellow bell peppers, kiwi, broccoli, strawberries and tomatoes

So there you have it. Foods that will help stop that aging process in its tracks. I say help because if you’re smoking, 1997 called and it wants it’s “cool” back. Stop. Seriously. Just stop. I know that’s easier said than done, but, bleh…

I love being tan. I feel better and I know I look better, which is why I use St. Tropez self tanner. Fool proof and not gonna give you wrinkles, or worse, skin cancer.

If you really like this please sign up to get e-mails. It’s right over there, on the right side, see it? yeh there. Thanks girl!

Birthday Wish List!

It’s almost that time of year again! My birthday! I love getting older. I always think “I am so lucky to get to spend another year with these people I love!” I also get the birthday blues every year too though, and I don’t know why. This year it’s come a little early. 22 days until the big day and I already have some weird sad feeling… why is that? Anyway in an effort to perk myself up I decided to make a Birthday Wish List of the top 10 things I’d like. January Bath & Body Favorites

I have found several new bath and body products I am LOVING this month! I’d post some makeup favorites, but I will wait to unveil the gorgeous line I have decided to carry in my salon, Brush & Blush, until later.  In the mean time, here is what’s been in my shower :)

Lush: Ocean Salt Face and Body Scrub  This stuff is amazing! I have recently learned that if you are trying to tighten your skin you should use a salt scrub and if you would like to open your pores to be able to get a product, like moisturizer, really deep into your skin you should use a sugar scrub. As far as salt scrubs go, this one gets an A+

Speaking of sugar scrubs, I purchased this Soap & Glory: Sugar Crush Body Polish from Sephora and not only does it smell amazing but it also does everything it promises. It has a pretty strong lime smell, that fades soon after toweling off so it’s not over-powering, just enough to invigorate you and get you pumped for the day. At only $20, you get A LOT of product.

Run. No, seriously. Run to Sephora and pick this up today! By far my favorite product purchase of the month, this Josie Maran: Whipped Argan Oil is fantastic! I bought the Vanilla Apricot scent and have since been searching for anything else that smells as delicious. I only use this on my arms and neck because the rest of my body requires being shellacked in a much stronger moisturizer. This product is light, hydrating and in my opinion would make the perfect gift, especially with Valentines day around the corner. Treat a friend to this, she will thank you.

What were you loving this month? Let me know in the comments below. I’ll be posting another blog very soon so if you have any suggestions I’d love to hear those as well. (Squeakers favorites? Recipe? Fashion?) I’m so excited for this new adventure in our live’s and honored that  you guys care enough to join me on my journey! I promise to post as often as possible and take all recommendations into consideration. Have a great day and stay warm!
